The Candle Factory is located on Interstate 35 at the south edge of Georgetown, Texas, where visitors are always welcome seven days a week. It was founded in 1967 as Old Georgetown Candles by Dr. and Mrs. Sherman Lesesne.
In January of 1973 it was moved to its present location and re-named Mar-Jon Candles, for their two children, Marcia and John. The business started as a hobby; the candle wax formulas, colors, and fragrances were worked out by Dr. Lesesne while he was a professor of Chemistry at Southwestern University in Georgetown, from 1954 to 1974. Ellen and Paul Nuckolls of Austin bought the factory in June of 1987.
Since the Nuckolls's purchase, the Candle Factory has glowed even more brightly. The building was expanded in 1995 to allow more room for production. Using formulas and designs created by the General Manager, Nancy White,
new colors, scents, and products have been added to their varied inventory. In addition to the production of the famous Mar-Jon Candles (pillars, votives, molded candles, and hand-dipped tapers), The Candle Factory has added Simmer'n Scents, fragrance jars, glowing season candles, shell candles, and much more.
The Candle Factory manufactures hand-dipped tapers (dinner candles), machine-made pillars, molded decorative pillars, and novelty candles. The Candle Factory has over 300 types of candles in 50 colors and fragrances, and is believed to have the largest selection of candles in the world. We also carry glass, wood, wrought iron, and brass candle holders, not to mention many silk flower rings and arrangements, in addition to our myriad candle designs.
The Candle Factory is shown by the Texas Highway Department on 11 of its tourist information boards in central Texas. The Candle Factory has been featured in the Texas Parade, Texas Monthly, and Texas Highways magazines as well as newspapers, The Eyes of Central Texas, The Eyes of Texas, and other TV programs. Many hundreds of visitors from almost every state in the union and a dozen or so foreign countries have signed the The Candle Factory guest book.
